If your child has not yet picked up head lice, you may not know what they look like, how to get rid of them and how to avoid them.
In this post we explain what they look like, their life cycle and how you can get rid of them so that your little one can enjoy a healthy hair without bugs 🙂

Head lice (Pediculus humanus capitis) are oviparous insects that live exclusively on human hairThey need the temperature of their hosts (our horses) and feed on blood. Their appearance is visible to the naked eye, brown and between 2 - 3mm in size. Head lice infestation is known as pediculosis.

Two antennae protrude from their head, their abdomen is flat and they have no wings, so no, they DO NOT FLY. Their 6 legs are very fast and this, together with their pincer-like shape, allows them to move nimbly from hair to hair and cling to them. They also cannot jump.
This agility makes it very difficult to extract them alive, as they move super-fast and hide easily in the mane.

How do I get rid of lice?

The best thing to do is to use an anti-lice treatment, there are different lotions, the most common are formulated with Pyrethrin or Dimethicone. And of course, a lice comb, with special teeth to effectively remove lice.

Pyrethrin is a pediculicide that acts on the louse's central nervous system, blocking it. Dimethicone is a high-density silicone that envelops the louse, paralysing it and causing it to suffocate. Both immobilise the louse, making it easier to drag it away.
At Nosa we have the Nosaattack line, with anti-lice treatments with both active ingredients, equally effective.

For the little ones with sensitive skin, we recommend the lotions with dimethiconeThey are formulated without insecticides and can be used from 6 months of age. In addition, its set of silicones helps to remove lice without tugging. The Pyrethrin treatment is available in a handy pack with shampoo, it's great as it is easy to apply and leaves no residue and no greasy or oily hair feeling.

How do I get rid of nits?

We know that some anti-lice treatments eliminate lice, but they do not succeed in removing the nits. This is because the nits secrete a very sticky substance that adheres to the hair.
To this end, we have developed the nit lotionformulated with Quassia Vinegar which breaks down this substance, facilitating the elimination of the nit and preventing further infestation.
