Who says travel is over once the kids arrive? It is true that travelling with children requires more preparations, but they are worth it. They are valuable opportunities to make them curious about other places, people, cultures... The most important thing is to be well organised and under no circumstances lose the spirit of travel and the love of adventure.

If you are travelling with your children, bear in mind the following tips 🙂

Tips for travelling with children and having a happy holiday

Plan your trip: anticipation = peace of mind

Accommodation. Transport. Food and drink. Meteorology. Alternatives in case of medical emergencies. These are the five pillars to start planning.

Sea or mountains, city destination, stay at home or travel abroad? Whichever destination you choose, always be well informed about the area. One of the most recommended websites to do so, especially if you are going abroad, is the website of the MAE  and either resort to vaccination centres . There you can find out which health measures are recommended.

Anticipate as much as possibleis our top tip for travelling with children. It is best to design the route of sites you will visit well in advance and book accommodation, transport tickets, etc. This way you will avoid last minute surprises.

In addition, check the weather forecast and take what you need to deal with inclement weather: umbrellas, umbrellas, rain boots... And most importantly, find out what protocol you should follow in case of a medical emergency.

Prepare children for the journey

However small your children may be, tell them about the trip. Explain what will happen. Show them pictures. If they are under 3 years old, they may not understand everything but at least they will sense that changes are coming to their agenda.

If they are old enough to do so, involve them in the preparation of the trip: the suitcases, what they would like to see?

In the suitcase everything you need and a separate bag (just in case).

Comfortable and appropriate clothing for each destination. Children need to change more than adults. So think about at least two changes of clothes for each day.

If you are going to destinations where you will be exposed to insects, a mosquito bites... it is best to wear light-coloured clothing, long-sleeved shirts, trousers and mosquito repellent. To prevent bites our bracelets  y mosquito spray will be your best allies. It might also be a good idea to include a mosquito net to put over the bed in the hotel, for example. Another product that is a must if you are travelling in hot weather is the sunscreenis a must when travelling with children.

Another very useful recommendation is to always carry a handbag with a change of clothes for everyone when travelling by transport. This way you will be prepared in case of lost luggage or delays.

A first aid kit with the essentials

Changes in water, food and air sometimes cause children to have reactions such as sleeping problems or diarrhoea. It is also possible that allergies to the new elements in the environment may arise. For all these reasons, it is advisable to include:

Against dehydration and hunger

In the excitement of travelling through new landscapes and hurried visits from one place to another, we forget to consume enough water. While adults are better able to manage thirst, it is advisable for children to travel with a bottle or canteen.

For hunger, always carry with you snacks that don't need to be cooked or heated and that kill hunger in a healthy way: bananas, nuts, apples, wholemeal biscuits, etc.

We do not think it is necessary to mention that you should hire a travel insurance. It's not out of fear, it's out of caution - a cautious family is worth two!

Oh, and don't forget to take some of your toys  😉
